Light Tent Light Test

For one of my projects I need to take one colour print, one black and white fibre based print and one digital print. I am planning on using a medium format hasselblad camera for the colour one, but did a lighting test with a Nikon D50 first. These were the best pictures it came out with:

I used torches with colour gels tied to them, first tightly then just placed on top. The first ones meant the colour only showed as little dots, and the second are the end few where the red covers almost the whole thing. When I take the final images I am going to try tie-ing them a bit looser so I get something inbetween. I also used one main lamp without a gel to illuminate the tent, which worked well and made it look translucent. I also need to focus on the rest of the body a bit more too; the hands work well but the back, shoulders and side of the body would create interesting shapes. I'm also going to try other colours too, I have yellow, green, blue, red and pink.

These images are amazing. I plan to do pictures that camouflage the subject into their background for an exhibition we're currently organising at uni, but nothing like these. They're incredible and rely on a great deal of artistic talent aswell as photographic talent. If these were my images, I'd be extremely proud of myself! It must have taken so long to paint the models too, which means each picture will have taken an extremely long time to get right.

Beautiful!

Painting with Light

In my last lesson we learned about how to 'paint with light', which I found incredibly interesting.
These two images are off lostamerica.com and are examples where this has been used to create a very extreme and surreal result:

Linda Girvin also creates a lovely effect in this image:You can also 'graffiti' with light, as in this photo:

I'd like to experiment with these types of lighting because there's so many different directions you could go with them.

Happy 2010!

I've had very limited use of the internet over the holidays, which is why there have been no recent blogs. but i'm back! just a quick one to start off...my friend Philippa sent all her friends this lovely happy new year collage she'd made:

It made me smile :-)

My new years resolutions....
  • Stop spending money on stupid things so I can save enough to go travelling in the summer
  • Try and carry my camera around with me more
  • Try and do more excercise
Let's see how long these last!
